सार

Big data a subfield of computational digital disciplines refers to complex technology applied for systematic extraction, analysis and visualisation of complex information (in terms of high volume, variety and velocity) through well designed and developed algorithms. The application of big data has transformed human culture, behaviour and public policy at large through the interconnected digital network (i.e. the Internet).

This scenario creates a series of suspicions related to data-driven public policy & governance ranging that includes power dynamics of algorithms, the emergence of novel kinds of digital exclusions, authorisation & legitimacy of algorithms and the political economy of big data. Such suspicions can be effectively grasped and discussed from a sociological lens. For this purpose, the study adopts thematic analysis with an application of sociological theories that potentially bring out the knowledge gaps in perceiving public policy and governance driven by big data.

The study attempts to qualitatively inquire about the state of governance and public policy of India that axel over Big Data from a sociological perspective.
