Innovation had been recognized as the tool for business survival and one of the ways to help community in developing countries to generate income through business. India has been making significant strides in the field of innovation in recent years. Global Innovation Index 2023 of India is a shining example of the country's everlasting dedication to innovation and its extraordinary rise to the top of the global innovation league. Country is maintaining its position as the 40th out of 132 economies, marking a tremendous rise from its 81st rank in 2015. There are several factors contributing to its development. To name a few "Startup India" to promote and support entrepreneurship and innovation, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) supporting student innovations, Digital Transformation especially in fintech, edtech, and e-commerce, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successful missions, Collaborations and Partnerships with international organizations, encouraging in investment in renewable energy sources, Government programmes in addressing social challenges. ni-msme has organised three weeks International Training Programme on “Enhancing Competitiveness in SMEs through Innovation, Incubation & Intellectual Property Rights” sponsored under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India from 9th to 27th October 2023 at ni-msme campus. A total of 27 executives from 12 countries representing Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kiribati, Kenya, Malaysia, Niger, Russia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Uganda attended the programme to understand the India's innovation landscape and gain knowledge which would help the participants to make their own action plan/ policy changes to contribute to the economic development and competitiveness of their respective countries. The book titled "Innovation, Incubation and Intellectual Property Rights: Experiences from Developing Countries" is a collection of papers that share the experiences and programs of various developing countries in relation to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Innovation, Incubation, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). I hope the publication would be highly useful to the practioners & professionals in developing economies.
